Kendrick Lamar's The Pop Out...Here's everything you know about the biggest hip-hop show of the year
Is this going to be Kendrick Lamar's Summer Jam screen?
Kendrick Lamar won the rap battle with Drake and he has the Song of the Summer with “Not Like Us”. What better way to take his victory lap than to perform live in his hometown? Kendrick Lamar’s Ken and Friends: The Pop Out concert is tonight. As I predicted on YouTube, this will be the biggest hip-hop concert of 2024.
Here’s what we know so far.
Set times. I’ve been told that these are pretty accurate. Since the show is being livestreamed on Amazon Prime and Twitch, this won’t be a concert that starts on “rapper time” (aka 2 hours late).
DJ Hed 4pm PST
DJ Mustard 4:45pm PST
Ken and Friends: 5:45pm PST
The early photos show a slew of battle-related merch, including “Not Like Us” t-shirts and a shout out to New Ho King’s fried rice.
Initially, I thought that Kendrick might do a whole live interpretation of his battle with Drake. He would start with “Like That” and then take us on a journey to “Meet the Grahams” and end with “Not Like Us.”
However, being that it’s Juneteenth, I can also see Kendrick taking a different route. He’ll definitely do the big records like “DNA” and “Alright” but also pull out some b-sides and fan favorite tracks. Further, it’s not just about Kendrick. Make today a celebration of West Coast hip-hop. He can bring out OGs like Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and E-40. I can see a tribute to Nipsey Hussle.
Essentially, a love letter to his coast.
You can watch Ken and Friends: The Pop Out on Amazon Prime or stream it on Amazon Music’s Twitch. Make sure to come join me on Twitter Spaces right after as I’ll be reacting and dissecting the concert with music industry friends. Just follow me on Twitter.
