Stop Paying Attention to Kanye
The rapper screams for relevance with increasingly desperate antics
That's enough Mr. West, please no more today…
Back when Graduation dropped in 2007, this was a funny lyric that pretty much encapsulated our collective sentiments about Kanye West. Yes, the talented rapper/producer/fashion designer was a provocateur that would go off on rants and rages from time to time (Remember “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people”?), but his creative output was different and exciting.
In other words, he could be a lot but damn it, he made hit records.
Fast forward to now…and Kanye West is no longer avant-garde or particularly interesting.
Kanye’s brand has devolved from self-proclaimed “genius” into a nonsensical puddle of racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia and antisemitism.
Kanye will do anything to get noticed. And hate is his best weapon.
He’s taken to X (formerly Twitter) as his platform. Most recently, he’s disrespected Jay-Z and Beyonce’s children, Kendrick Lamar and Drake and a host of other famous names. Meanwhile, he’s shouting out Diddy and R. Kelly, who have been accused and convicted of sexual abuse, respectively. He’s sharing photos of Ku Klux Klan outfits. And his next Sunday Service concert, which he has branded the N-word, requires child participants to shave their heads. You already know where this is going…
And here’s the thing…nobody cares.
